I’ve been trying out a lot of new products recently and I’ll try to do as many reviews as possible over the coming weeks. First up is Beeware Honeyed Chilli & Garlic Sauce.
Although I was naturally attracted to this dark red sauce because of its chilli contents, the makers of this sauce specialize mainly in honey products, including candles and other condiments. They can be found at Guildford Centre’s Saturday market.
This sauce has a thick consistency with seeds and ingredients listed on the bottle include chilli, garlic, sugar, vinegar, olive oil and honey. It has a strong vinegar smell and very garlic flavour which comes through first when tasting. The heat comes through next and is quite a powerful level of heat – perfect for me. The only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of honey flavour, which was possibly overpowered by the heat, and it wasn’t as sweet as I would have expected.
- 140g spaghetti or other pasta
- 1 jar of bolognese sauce (I used Loyd Grossman’s)
- 2 black pudding, chopped
- 50g chorizo, chopped
- 1tbsp rapeseed oil
- 1/2 tbsp Beeware chilli and garlic sauce
Cook the pasta to the packet instructions. Meanwhile heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the chorizo and black pudding for five minutes.
Add the bolognese sauce and Beeware sauce and simmer for 2 minutes to heat through.
Serves with pasta and parmesan if you like.
