Review: Flaming Charcoal Cheese

In my second review of Blacks Cheese, bought from Highclere Country Fayre, i’m looking at a very unusual cheese. It’s not just coated in black wax, the cheese underneath is black too and is one of three types of all black, charcoal cheddar available.

The creamy mature cheddar plus cayenne chilli and charcoal is a delicious combination. The chilli flakes are dotted throughout so you get a tang every now and then but the creaminess of the cheese suits it well. Overall it has quite a smoky flavour which I imagine would suit a burger and other BBQ food.

It has a more ‘chalky’ texture than regular cheese. Very unique to any cheese I’ve had before, but I did like it. The regular charcoal cheese, without the chilli, was also very tasty.

This cheese is £5.50, available from here.
